The aim of this article is to explore the specifics of interior space in Petersburg Tales by N. V. Gogol, identifying its role in shaping the artistic world of the works. In N. V. Gogol's texts, the interior not only reflects the social and psychological characteristics of the characters but also becomes an independent narrative element that influences the development of the plot and the perception of the works. The research objectives include analyzing the interior as a bearer of symbolic meanings, identifying its connection with the motifs of alienation, fantasy, and metamorphosis, as well as studying the interaction between characters and space. It is essential to examine how interior details contribute to the overall atmosphere of the work and convey the author’s intent. The methodological basis of the study includes structural-semantic and motif analysis, as well as an intertextual approach that allows us to consider N. V. Gogol's interiors in the context of the Russian literary tradition and their influence on the further development of realist and modernist prose. The research results demonstrate that the interior in Petersburg Tales serves not only a descriptive but also a functional role, shaping the psychological state of the characters and creating an atmosphere of anxiety, absurdity, and the blurring of boundaries between reality and fantasy. The main conclusion of the study is that Gogol uses the interior as a means of artistic expression, transforming domestic space into a symbolic dimension where the deeper meanings of his works are revealed, making it an essential element of the narrative structure.
